Yap (Waqab)

Best known as the land of giant stone money, Yap is the most traditional of the four Federated States of Micronesia, with many Yapese wearing a mixture of western and traditional style clothing.  Discussions centering around traditional life in the modern world take place in the Men’s houses, or faluw, which are still built in the elaborate traditional style of wood, thatch, rope and bamboo.

Yap is also known as a diver’s paradise with spectacular marine life and coral reef formations.

Topics of special interest include indigenous cultures, and terrestrial and marine biology.
