The Kingdom of Tonga is the oldest continuous Polynesian Kingdom, having been settled since at least 500 B.C. Tonga is called the Friendly Islands and the people personify this by making their visitors feel special. Tongan crafts are considered among the best in the Pacific. Baskets, fine mats and tapa are highly prized. The Tongans are also known for their beautiful choral music, and visitors frequently encounter the King or one of the princesses at church on Sundays.
