Pohnpei is home to Micronesia’s most famous and magnificent archaeological ruin, Nan Madol. Built of large basalt pillars between the 7th and 16th centuries, Nan Madol is an ancient city on water that once served as the political, religious, and social center for the Saudeleur dynasty. The people of Pohnpei are known for their traditional dances and Sakau (a beverage) ceremony. The traditional stratified society is still evidenced by many Pohnpeians retaining a title related to the clan system.
Topics of special interest include indigenous culture, history, and terrestrial and marine biology.
